Responsible AI: How to Balance Innovation and Ethics?

How can artificial intelligence (AI) remain innovative while also being fair and safe for society? This was the key question at "Responsible AI: Balancing Innovation and Ethics," organized by us in collaboration with the CODE Research Institute and the General Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia in Munich. The event took place on December 4th 2024 at the CODE Research Institute in Munich.

Within an academic setting, 70 participants gathered, including our entire executive board, Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia Mrs. Maša Šiftar, representatives from academia, researchers, students, and industry experts.

The central part of the event was a discussion featuring multiple renowned AI experts:

• Prof. Dr. Gabi Dreo Rodosek (CODE Research Institute, Universität der Bundeswehr München)

• Prof. Dr. Eirini Ntoutsi (CODE Research Institute, Universität der Bundeswehr München)

The discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Matthias Grabmair (Technische Universität München), who ensured an in-depth debate.

The speakers shed light on the latest trends in artificial intelligence and highlighted key challenges, such as ethics in AI development and application, security and trust in AI systems, the impact of AI on society and work, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. The discussion emphasized the importance of cooperation between regions like Bavaria and Slovenia to foster the development of fair and responsible AI systems.

After the panel discussion, participants had the opportunity for informal networking over snacks and drinks. Conversations continued in a more relaxed atmosphere, building connections between academics, researchers, and entrepreneurs.

The event was an excellent start to a new series of discussions on innovation, technology, and the economy. We look forward to future events where we will continue exploring how technology can positively contribute to society.
